Canship Ugland Ltd. is a Canadian ship management company located in St. John’s, Newfoundland. The company started its operations in 1997 when the first oil produced on the Grand Banks was transported ashore. .
Canship operates in two key areas in Canada: the East Coast and the West Coast. On the East Coast, the company manages two local tugs, three pilot boats and one oil/chemical tanker in Placentia Bay, and one bulk carrier designed for ice operations off the coast of Labrador. On the West Coast, Canship owns and operates the CL Aquarius, to refuel ships in Burrard Inlet. In addition, Canship also manages two dynamically positioned (DP) shuttle tankers – two operate in the North Sea (Northern Europe)
Canship Ugland has achieved three International Organization for Standardization (ISO) for Quality management (ISO 9001:2015), Environmental Management (ISO 14001:2018) and Energy Management (50001:2018) and Occupational Health and Safety (ISO 45001:2018) under Norwegian and Canadian accreditation.
The company has approximately 200 Canadian employees onboard the vessels and ashore.
Canship Ugland Ltd. is a joint venture of the J.J. Ugland Companies of Grimstad, Norway and Knutsen OAS Shipping of Haugesund, Norway. Both companies have their own long histories as ship owners and operators and they have both been involved in the operations of DP shuttle tankers since oil transportation started from the oil fields in the North Sea in the 1980s.
